   I
enthusiastically recommend this Italian film, Pane e
Tulipani or for the English speaking crowd, Bread
and Tulips. It's a film that provides
entertainment in its comedy and in its reflection on the
personal choices we all make between the meaningful
'shoulds' and 'wants' in our lives.Â
   I found some wonderful
plot gimmicks in the story line; the detective, the noose,
the mistress, etc. Most of all I was impressed
with Licia Maglietta's portrayal of Rosalba's tentative
decisions. It was a pleasure to watch a middle
aged successful and attractive actress at work in a part
that Hollywood would have cast with an anorexic dippy
20-something.
When the film draws to its conclusion and
you're sitting there thinking about it, a question pops up.
Given some happy accident of fate, could I turn being lost
into a vacation?
   I saw this at a
theater with subtitles.
