This is an animation film that received
fairly good reviews (Ebert gave it 3-stars with some
comments about the old Sci-Fi masters; Heinlein, Azimov,
Clarke.) I noticed that the credits listed were 99% in
Japanese, the animation was pretty amazing and the movie
was about 20 minutes too long.
The detailed animation on the humans, down to their beard
stubble, was impressive. However their actions were
perceptively slower than reality for some motions - I think
it may have been a new Azimov robot rule: animated
humans must have a tell-tale non-human characteristic, or
else....... The plot line was classic story telling;
conflicted start, girl-boy, a mentor, good-guys, a real bad
guy, a challenging journey, multiple crises and finally an
anti-climatic crisis.
Apparently a company that does video games produced this
film. It had that flavor. I got a real kick out of the logo
for SQUARE FILMS. It was a rectangle.
