This film was a showcase for Cate Blanchett. It was my first view of her in a leading role (I had not seen Elizabeth yet) and I was really impressed.  The other surprise in the movie was a wonderful character, Buddy played by Giovanni Ribisi (probably his real name).  He was totally the character in the movie and every bit as impressive as

Blanchett, although his part was easier to do - not as subtle - more outrageous.  This piece is called a supernatural thriller.  I agree with the thriller part - supernatural is pushing it.  Cate's character, Mrs Wilson is a psychic - not all that unusual even in our world, but of course Hollywood had to increase the dose to make it "super".  There were a lot of scenes with dark corners, people sneaking around, visions and spooky music to keep the intensity going - and it worked.  My wife and I worked out the plot half way through the film but the acting and visuals were so great we enjoyed it to the end.
