Carol Wood Reviews:

Going for the Jocular Vein
by Erica Stux

I met Erica Stux at the California Writers Club and I wasn't impressed. She looks like an ordinary woman with a crocked smile. And then she read some of her poetry. Well, I have to tell you it cracks me up. She has a deep craggy voice more suited to mystery than poetry and maybe that's what makes her so funny. It's unexpected, like her humor. She is a funny. I've seen her stand in front of an audience and speak in this little widdly voice with a look that says "I double dog dare you, not to laugh!"

And we can't help laughing. She's so cute. She's so funny and then she zings you!

Here's a little sample.

Picky Chicky

"I eat like a bird," she has told us.
"I really am using willpower."
What she means is she eats like a fledgling
That downs it's own weight every hour.

Jennifer Van Schoyck's drawings compliment the poetry perfectly. Overall this book gets a rating of buy two copies and that's not because it's just $5 dollars a book.
