Carol Wood Reviews:
If any of you have had experience boating, this book will hook you in instantly. For the rest of us it will happen the moment the 50 year old Ruth and her late husband, Torger, travel under a bridge in Chicago and are shot at. Sounds like a 50 year old's fantasy adventure, except, this is the true story of Ruth and Torger's real life adventure aboard the TORU. I think Ruth is adept at capturing her audience's attention with the events and dramatic changes that she and her husband went through. Many of the scenes were life threatening like the time they navigated the rapids before Niagara Falls with one sputtering engine. Ruth gave this reader a much greater respect for those people who choose boating as a hobby. At first I couldn't fathom the instant repore that happened between the TORU crew of two and complete strangers on other boats, but then gradually I began to understand that life threatening situations happen daily for sailors and a friend in every port is quite natural for those that manage to challenge Mother Nature and live to see another day. I found this to be a book I wanted to savor. I read a little bit each morning with my coffee so that I would have something to look forward too. It's quite fantastic an accomplisment for a new writer and first book. I thought the price $22 dollars was well worth it and purchased additional copies for my friends. I strongly suggest you read this book. To learn more about this author, go to her website - http://www.ruthsilnes.com |
