Normally I do not like books that scare me. It keeps me up at night. But this book, the villian a serial killer called "the Surgeon" was painted so... evil. I mean he was really EVIL! And that was fascinating. Once I got into it, I just couldn't stop reading! And the story was written so believably that I wonder if it was true. The way the San Franciso earthquake and aftermath was described made it seem so real. And I think the fact that a child becomes involved in chasing down the killer makes this seem a more... vulnerable story. As soon as I was finished it, I gave it to my husband. When his eyes were as big as mine, he gave it to my son to read and when he was scared out of his wits, he gave it to his wife to read. We're a one book four readers house, but the rest of the family will have to buy their own copy! Thank heavens the ending is... Well, I won't spoil it for you, but it was VERY satisfying. This is definetely a book that you want to buy! The writing is exceptional. Draws you in like a moth to a flame and just as deadly. I rate this 4 stars! |
