Hazel Street Editors

Below is a growing list of editors that will work with you to improve your writing.

  • A content editor will review the purpose of your story and at the very least, tell you what does and doesn't work.
  • A proofer will check over the spelling, punctuation and grammar. A good proofer will suggest word changes that can make your manuscript snap!
  • An editor will take your work and make changes they feel are appropriate. It's important that you feel that your editor "Get's it" what it is you are trying to say.
  • A teaching editor will explain why they request a change and usually ask you to make the change yourself in your own words. Sometimes offering suggestions.
  • A ghostwriter will take rough text or outline or idea and rewrite it, so that it's ready for publication.

Before you choose an editor, ask them to edit a short sample of your work. Choosing an editor is a very personal process. Make sure you have someone you feel comfortable with. Remember, this is not easy, accepting a critique can be painful. Keep calm, keep in mind that you are the author and you can accept or reject any changes. Talk with your editor up front about this, some editors will not allow you to list their name if you do not accept all their changes.

Writing is about rewriting.
