Beverly Morgan Reviews:

Warings War
by John Creighton

2001 Quil Valley Books

This book by CWC’s own member John Creighton is an insiders look at the allies World War II effort to get balsa wood for the light twin-engine bombers, The Mosquito aeroplane and life rafts for navy and merchant marine ships. Waring is faced with seemingly insurmountable odds in his quest to get balsa to the factories. From attempts on his life, to poorly graded and wet wood, to work stoppages caused by efforts to keep the balsa wood from reaching the factories our hero’s quick wit and creativity keeps him alive and his projects moving forward. With nary a curse or a drink of alcohol and chaste loves scenes this is a good read-aloud book that parents and children can enjoy.
