Snow Fall
By Maureen Musumeci

The night falls and snow falls both quietly so as not to disturb
The slumber of Mother Earth as she rests from the labors of her day.
The stars hidden by the quiet blanket of white are still in the heavens
Waiting, glittering, their beauty unaffected by the softly falling snow.

All around the sleeping earth awaits, quiet and still
For the sun to wake and gently begin the new morn.
Then the blanket of white will glisten and shine
Starry-eyed and deep and quietly waiting

For children to play and shriek and toss
And walkers to walk leaving footprints as designs
And cars to drive over and noisily ride
Patterning the blanket with crisses and crosses

Until at dusk the moon begins to rise
And shines upon the fallen snow
No longer pristine and new
And the stars come out to say goodbye.
